Victoria has a proud tradition of caring for its forebears in a system of public cemeteries.

Bellbrae Cemetery is one of approximately 500 “small” Victorian cemeteries.  Each year there are around 20 funerals - a total of some 650 since it was officially “gazetted” in 1864.

The cemetery is well regarded by its many visitors, particularly because of its rural setting and country bush character.  It also serves the community as a popular passive open space.

Like most public cemeteries, Bellbrae Cemetery is publicly owned and sulf funding.  It is administered by a voluntary Trust, whose members are appointed by the State Government under the provisions of the Victorian Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003.
